Red Jell-O Gelatin – such as strawberry, raspberry, cranberry or cherry. We used strawberry Jell-O gelatin for this recipe.
Blue Jell-O Gelatin – such as, blue berry gelatin mix. Any brand will work fine.
White Cake Mix – I suggest using white cake mix instead of yellow cake mix, so that the flag colors from the gelatin can really pop up.
Whipped Topping – Cool Whip or homemade whipped topping.
Patriotic Sprinkles – don’t skip these for the ultimate patriotic cake look.
HOW TO MAKE RED WHITE AND BLUE POKE CAKE
- Bake your white cake mix according to the package directions and let it cool for at least 30 minutes. Add eggs, oil and water or milk to the cake mix.
- Poke holes over the entire cake using a wooden spoon. They should be about ½ – ¾ the depth of the cake.
- Dissolve blue jello in 1 cup of boiling water. Stir in ½ cup cold water.
- Dissolve red jello in 1 cup of boiling water. Stir in ½ cup cold water.
- Carefully pour the red and blue jello into alternating holes in the cake.
- Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
- When the cake is completely cooled down, spread whipped topping over the cake and top with patriotic sprinkles.
