Red Velvet Cake Mix – Which typically weighs around 15-18 ounces depending on the brand. Assuming a standard 15.25-ounce box of cake mix, that would be the amount used in this recipe. However, keep in mind that the exact weight of the cake mixture used may vary slightly depending on the brand and type of cake mix used.
Cream Cheese – we used Philadelphia for this yummy recipe.
White Chocolate – white chocolate chips or white chocolate wafers, what you prefer.
Patriotic Sprinkles – of course, for all the festive feels.
Red & Blue Food Gel – to make red and blue chocolate drizzles on top of the cake pops.
You will also need lollipop sticks for these cake pops.
HOW TO MAKE 4TH OF JULY CAKE POPS
- Crumble the cake into a large bowl with your hands.
- Add the softened cream cheese to the bowl with the crumbled cake. Mix until well combined.
- Roll the cake mixture into small balls and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Let it chill in the fridge for about an hour.
- Insert a lollipop stick into each cake ball.
- Melt the white chocolate in a double boiler or in the microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring between each interval until melted.
- Divide the melted white chocolate into three separate bowls. Add a few drops of red gel food coloring to one bowl and stir until fully combined. Add a few drops of blue gel food coloring to another bowl and stir until fully combined. Leave the third bowl of white chocolate as is.
- Dip the cake pops into the white melted chocolate, making sure to cover the entire cake ball. Allow any excess to drip off before placing the cake pop back onto the parchment paper.
- Immediately sprinkle the red and blue sprinkles on top of the chocolate while it is still wet. Repeat this process with all of the cake pops.
- Once the chocolate has hardened, melt again the blue and red chocolate. Fill two piping bags with both chocolates and decorate your cake pops.
- Wait until the chocolate hardens and serve.
PRO TIPS FOR 4TH OF JULY CAKE POPS
