INGREDIENTS NOTES
See the recipe card below for quantities.
Grenadine – for the sweetness and red layer.
Lime Juice – to make it a bit more tart. You can use pre-packaged lime juice too.
Blue Curacao – for the sweetness and blue layer, or blue raspberry syrup.
Silver Tequila – this can be substituted – choose white rum, original vodka or any flavored vodka.
Lime Margarita – You can also use red, white and berry vodka, lemon margarita.
Ice – Crushed ice will be the best for this recipe.
Marshmallow – for garnish. You can also use star shaped candy for an even more patriotic look.
HOW TO MAKE RED WHITE AND BLUE MARGARITA
- Make each layer of margarita separately by blending all ingredients in a high powered blender (rinsing in between layers).
- After making each layer, pour into glasses – layer by layer. This will create the red white and blue separated layers.
- Garnish with marshmallow or star candy and enjoy.
STORAGE
This drink is best served fresh. But, you can make it ahead and store it in the fridge for an hour or two.
TIPS
USE CRUSHED ICE. It will be easier for your blender to make margarita layers. This is especially useful if you have an older, less powerful blender.
POUR LAYER SLOWLY. Be sure to pour this drink slowly, to prevent the layers from mixing. Once mixed the drink will become a purple color.
ADJUST MARGARITAS TO YOUR TASTE. Add more liqueur, less alcohol depending on you and your guests preferences.
DON’T OVERBLEND. We want the slushie experience for these margaritas, if you’ll leave the blender for too long, the consistency will be too runny and thin.
