HOW TO MAKE M&M CHOCOLATE COOKIES
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt. Then add cocoa powder and whisk until all the ingredients are fully incorporated.
In a separated bowl, combine granulated sugar, melted butter, vanilla, vegetable oil, and egg. Mix until well combined and smooth.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined. Do not overmix.
Stir in M&M candies, and chocolate chips, ensuring they are evenly distributed throughout the dough.
Drop rounded tablespoons of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
Bake the cookies in the preheated oven for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the edges are set and the centers are slightly soft.
Remove the cookies from the oven and allow them to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Once cooled, enjoy!
TIPS FOR SUCCESS
Make sure to sift the all-purpose flour to remove any lumps and ensure a smoother texture in the cookies.
You can use regular-sized M&M candies or mini M&M candies based on your preference.
Feel free to add chopped nuts, such as walnuts or pecans, for added crunch and flavor.
For a chewier texture, slightly underbaked the cookies and allow them to cool completely on the baking sheet.
If you prefer softer cookies, store them in an airtight container with a slice of bread. The bread will help keep the cookies moist.
SUBSTITUTIONS AND ADDITIONS
If you want to make these cookies for all the upcoming holidays, here are some substitutions to make –
- For Christmas – use red and green M&M’s
- For Halloween – use red and purple M&M’s
- For Valentine’s Day – use pink and red M&M’s
- For Easter – use pastel M&M’s
For this exact cookies recipe, you can use any type of M&M’s that you like. I used the new Fudge Brownie M&M’s but plain, peanut, almond or any other kind will work.
RECIPE FAQ’S
My Cookies Spread Too Much. What Happened?
If your cookies spread too much, your butter was more likely warm. The butter should be at a cool room temperature (around 65F). If cookie dough you made is feeling very sticky and greasy before baking, or is too soft and sticky to roll into balls, that’s a sign that your butter is too warm. Definitely put the cookie dough in the fridge for 10 minutes before baking.
HOW TO STORE CHOCOLATE M&M COOKIES?
These cookies can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 5 days. If you want to extend their shelf life, you can store them in the refrigerator for up to 1 week.
HOW TO FREEZE M&M COOKIES?
To freeze the cookies, place them in a freezer-safe container or zip-top bag. They can be frozen for up to 3 months. Thaw them at room temperature before serving or warm them up in the oven for a few minutes.
Are M&Ms gluten-free?
M&M’s are gluten-free except for the pretzel-flavored ones. Be sure to check the back of the label on both the chocolate and the M&Ms just in case to be sure.
