Expert Tips
Use any apples you have. You can use any type of apple that you prefer, but a tart apple like Granny Smith works best for this recipe.
Choose different tortillas. If you don’t have flour tortillas, you can use corn tortillas or even pre-made taco shells.
Add more crunch. If you want to add some crunch to the tacos, you can sprinkle some chopped nuts such as pecans or walnuts over the filling before topping with whipped cream or ice cream. Use chocolate chips or butterscotch chips if you want to make them crunchier and sweeter.
Store and make them in advance. To save time, you can prepare the apple pie filling in advance and reheat it before serving. Just make sure to store it in an airtight container in the fridge.
Use toppings of your choice. If you don’t have caramel sauce, you can use honey, maple syrup or chocolate sauce as a topping.
RECIPE FAQ’S
CAN I USE A DIFFERENT FILLING?
Yes, sure! Dessert tacos can be customized by using your favorite pie filling – cherry, blueberry, strawberry. You can also add cream cheese for the filling.
HOW TO STORE APPLE PIE TACOS?
Leave them on the counter in an airtight container for up to 2 days and in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. Although I recommend eating them fresh right away as they don’t store very well – the shell will loose it’s crispiness. So the best time to eat them is right away and make them fresh each time.
